Young George Washington: America's First President

Authors: Andrew Woods and John Himmelman
Average review score:

History for budding historians
I thought this book would be well over the head of my five-year-old son; it has more words on each page than he's used to (because it is geared for the young reader). This book is so well written that it kept his attention throughout. And when he realized that this was someone he had heard of, he was hooked. Now he wants to know about all the presidents. (He doesn't realize how many of them there are!)

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to start their child down the path of enjoying history.

Wonderful introduction to history
Although I expected this book to be well over the head of my 5-year-old son, he loved it. It was an interesting book that held his attention on its own merits. The pictures, although not as many as he was used to, helped the story along. But when he learned that this was a book about a real person, someone he had heard of, he was thrilled. He's asked me to get him more books about real people. I definitely will.

A children's classic
If you love your young children who are just learning about history, you owe it to yourself and to them to rush and press the order button for this classic kids' book. Lushily and lavishly illustrated, this wonderful tome details the true story of the man who would become the first president of the United States. This book is an excellent start for any young man or woman to get a grip on the early history of our great country. I am choked up as I write these words because I know this incredible book will become an heirloom that I will pass down from generation to generation. This powerful, and moving testiment to the formation of our land will never be forgotten by this impressed reader. It's simply one of the most wonderful books ever written and I thank God for its existence.

The 100 Greatest American Films: A Quiz Book
Published in Paperback by Citadel Pr (August, 2002)
Author: Andrew J. Rausch
Average review score:

Humorous, informative, thought-provoking, entertaining
Those are the words I would use to describe this little gem of a book. I received this as a birthday gift (along with a DVD of the Criterion Edition Seven Samurai, I might add). At first, I just kind of went, 'Oh, a quiz book.' Boy, was I wrong. I had a blast reading this. More than anything, the book is informative. I had fun answering the questions I knew ('What is Rosebud?' Duh.), but the ones I didn't know turned out to be a treasure-trove of information on these movies. Really, really fun book. Two thumbs up!

Think you know film history?
Despite the fact that I don't fully approve of the american film institute's choices for the 100 greatest american films, I am a huge fan of a great deal of these films: sunset boulevard, taxi driver, the wizard of oz, gone with the wind, citizen kane, et al. As a film buff and amateur film historian, I felt I knew a great deal about these projects and their histories. Yet, to my amazement, Mr. Raush's book consistently brought new facts to light. While I'm not really much of a fan of quiz books, I liked this book immensely. In fact, the title is kind of misleading since its really more of film history book than anything else. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it an able companion to Roger Ebert's The Great Films book. I would heartily recommend either of these books to anyone interested in movies and movie makers.

101 Survival Tips for Your Business: Practical Tips to Help Your Business Survive and Prosper
Published in Paperback by Allen & Unwin (September, 2002)
Author: Andrew Griffiths
Average review score:

I love the Australian perspective
I read the first book by this author, 101 Ways to Market Your Business and I really liked the style that it is written in. I especially liked the fact that it was written by an Australian - giving a fresh persepctive on marketing and advertising. When I saw this new title I was intrigued. On reading it I was very impressed by the information and the practical, simple advice offered. The author has covered everything imaginable in a way that empowers the business owner to surge forward and succeed. I was very impressed and I must say that I am not easily impressed. Good on this Aussie guru.

I wish I had this book ten years ago
This is without a doubt, a book for anyone in business or anyone thinking about starting a business. The author clearly identifies the most common business mistakes (which I have made plenty of) and he describes how to avoid making them. This is definitely one of the few books that should be considered absolutely essential to any library. The author writes in a very clear manner that I found particularly easy to relate to. He also makes you feel OK about making mistakes rather than feeling like a[dummy]. I have no doubt that this book will help my business to prosper.

3D Studio MAX Release 2.0 / 2.5 Training CD

I'll need some books about 3d studio max Tutorials
If anybody can help me get or buy these books please mail me at nmeijnen@hotmail.com

Thanks for any respons! :-)

An excellent set of 3DS MAX tutorials
Many training CD's are poorly conceived and I had bad experiences with some in the past. Of course, just one useful model can cover the cost of a CD, so I decided to give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find an HTML-based training course that serves the needs of beginning to advanced users.

The authors appear to really know MAX and organized the training material so that it can be worked through either sequentially or in order of your current interest. I was able to view two tutorials of immediate use without having to wade through prior material. The tutorial on rendering multiple camera views in VP was interesting. So far, there have been no bad experiences with this product.

Models and materials on the CD alone make it worth the cost. The tutorial information is icing on the cake.

On the downside, the product does require obtaining an authorization code. I received the CD on a Friday, but was not able to use it until late Monday nite. You ! should call in to get the code (do not send e-mail). Fortunately, it was worth the wait.

ABA LSAC Official Guide to ABA-Approved Law Schools, 2003
Published in Paperback by Law School Admission Council (March, 2002)
Authors: Wendy Margolis, Andrew Arnone, and Rick L. Morgan
Average review score:

Hands down the best resource for Law School information
If you're applying to law school (or are thinking about it), and you only get one book to research American Law Schools, get this one--trust me. You get four pages on every ABA approved law school (which are, really, the only schools one should be concerned with--with very few exceptions). Two pages of stats listing nearly all of the valuable information that you want to know, and also lots of information that you should know (but might not realize). Also two pages where the law school writes about itself. This book's information is probably more accurate, complete, and up to date than that in other publications (nearly all of which I've all read). The LSAC gives you the stats (so they are directly from the authority), and the law schools give you their spiel (which may be good and bad). Check it out. NOTE: Make sure you get the most current edition, they print a new one every year.

The cover says it all
The cover says it all. This book gives the pertinent facts on all of the ABA approved schools. It also gives a brief summary of law school and the field of law. It does not rank the schools in an arbitrary matter. It gives you the data so you can rank them yourself.

Accidental Warrior: The Forging Of An American Soldier
Published in Hardcover by Elderberry Press (01 October, 2002)
Authors: Andy O'Meara Jr. and Andrew P. O'Meara Jr.
Average review score:

Carrying The Water
Behind the posturing and political facades, ignored by media and entertainers, and neither praised nor appreciated are the men and women warriors who chose the harder course to wear the uniform of our country's military and serve honorably and successfully through the cold war and Vietnam. One of these, Andy O'Meara has courageously told his story in this moving, informative, and historically appropriate book. His story needs to be read so that our people can understand the brave men and women who did their duty faithfully and honorably, then were treated so badly. Here in stark detail is the other side of the story.

HOW SOLDIERS ARE MADE
This is a look into the mind of a successful soldier and leader. It's plainly, forcefully and honestly told. This is the story silenced by the media. If you get your news from Dan Rather, it may shock you. But the truth is evident in every word of it.

Ad Infinitum
Published in Paperback by Writer's Showcase Press (November, 2000)
Author: James Andrew Wright
Average review score:

Tossed through time, chased by evil, low on disk space
Although long and a little hard to follow at times, Ad Infinitum is a thrilling look at one man's voyage through time as the result of a freak nuclear accident. Along the way he is hounded by an enchanting witch of astoundishing power.

James A. Wright shows tremendous promise as a writer, and readers will definitely demand sequels, following the hero's new divine mission and more on the role of the enigmatic Hyksos aliens.

The Wrighter gives a rich detail of many different historical periods, ranging from the feudal Old World (in several different locations) to the modern world, to the future and beyond.

Don't let the price tag scare you, Ad Infinitum is worth the money and time to read it.

Excellent Sci-Fi with awesome plot
This is one of the best in the genre. The author weaves a spellbinding plot with edge-of-your-seat action to produce a thrilling book that I couldn't put down. Spanning the farthest reaches of time, this book weaves a convincing theory of time travel. That, combined with the writer's in depth knowledge of all of the timelines in the past, makes for great reading. James Bond meets the TV Show "Seven Days". If you're a Sci-Fi fan, this is a must have in your collection.

Adapting to Abundance
Published in Paperback by Columbia University Press (15 April, 1992)
Author: Andrew R. Heinze
Average review score:

Really original research! A classic.
I am a history teacher, a Jew, and a woman. This book showed a real respect and understanding of the Jewish women's role in the history of American culture. My grandmother also loves it.

This book is amazing! It was THE book in my history class.
This book was a genuinely original piece of research. I loved it. You can learn about Jews, about consumption, and about America. I was lucky enough to hear Dr. Heinze speak a few years ago on Jewish Women in America, and he (unlike many other writers on the subject) really understands the role of Jewish women - yesterday and today.
